"If I were asked what is the best thing one can expect in life, I would say--the privilege of being useful."  Eleanor Roosevelt
Too many young people ar failing in our public schools today, and consequently, leave school without the skills needed to succeed in life.  When one realizes that over 85 percent of the juveniles in the court system and over 75 percent of our state prison inmates are high school dropouts, then one can begin to understand the enormous loss, and cost to society  created by each year's class of dropouts.  ( See Dropout Prevention for local statistics)
Schools alone cannot solve the complex and diverse problems face by today's youth.
We invite you to become a part of the solution!
Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Board Membership:  Communities In Schools of Cape Fear is always looking for community minded citizens who are interested in the welfare and success of our local youth.  The CISCF Board meets on the third Wednesday of each month at noon in the CISCF offices.  Board members oversee the operations of the agency, participate in fundraising and marketing, and advocate for the agency in the community.
  • Volunteering to teach a class or lesson to the after school students:  If you have a special talent, skill or interest, our students could benefit!  One time lessons, or weekly lessons in dance, crafts, discussions, book studies, music, art, or physical activities would all be appreciated!
  • Tutoring students in core subjects and preparation for End of Course and End of Grade Tests
