Communities in School Programs
- After School
- After School Programs are offered in New Hanover and Pender Counties for middle and high school students. The goals of these programs are to provide a safe place for students during the after school hours, provide academic assistance to students to help them succeed in school, and provide auxiliary services to meet the needs of the students.

- The W.I.R.E. Youth Center (Wilmington youth center for Inspiration, Recreation and Education) addresses the concerns of out of school time for youth in a positive, engaging environment, while offering academic support for students and resources for families.

- Non-Traditional Learning
- Communities In Schools provides learning environments for students who are experiencing difficulty in achieving success in their school settings.
The Mary S. Mosely Performance Learning Center is a non-traditional high school that serves
serves students in grades 10-12 and is designed for students who are at risk of dropping out--who may have fallen behind in their credits, have difficulty dealing with social issues, or are just not successful in their current school.
The CIS Suspension Program (formerly Program E.A.S.Y.) offers students who are suspended from school for 10 days or less the opportunity to maintain their course work with the help of teachers, while they are suspended.
NovaNet online high school curriculum is offered at CIS of Cape Fear in the W.I.R.E. Youth Center after school and during the summer. THis curriculum offers students the opportunity to make up classes that they have failed, allowing them to "catch up" and potentially graduate with their peers.

- This non-traditional high school opened its doors August 26, 2008. The PLC serves 100 students who are not making it in the traditional high school model.

- NovaNET: Course Credit Recovery Program
- Students enroll in courses through their high school and complete online at W.I.R.E. Students who have failed classes can make up the class for credit in order to graduate.

- Suspension Program
- CIS Suspension Program at WIRE serves students suspended for 10 days or less, providing academic support as well as anger management, social and emotional counseling. The program aims to keep students on track academically while suspended, as well as help remove barriers for future success. Served over 200 students in 2008-2009 and saved 1,500 days of instruction for those students.

- Gang Prevention and Outreach
- Communities In Schools of Cape Fear provides services to middle school students who are at risk of becoming involved in gangs. The Gang Outreach Specialist reaches out to specific students who are referred by their school and provides alternative activities and resources to these youth and their families.

- Teen Parenting
- CIS of Cape Fear offers programs aimed at fostering support for teens who are pregnant or parenting and their families. Baby FAST and FAST Works offers these young parents the opportunity to learn about important community resources they have access to, develop relationships with peers, discuss relative topics, and strengthen their family bonds.

- Baby FAST
- Baby FAST is a multifamily group intervention model for young parents and their infants and toddlers (age 0-3), sponsored by Smart Start of New Hanover County. It works especially well for first-time mothers, and is intended to protect vulnerable families with risk factors, by providing support, family strengthening, group intervention, mental and substance abuse counseling, parenting skills and networking opportunities.

- Dropout Prevention
- Communities In Schools of Cape Fear (CISCF) is dedicated to reducing the dropout rate in New Hanover and Pender Counties. Currently, only 63.6% of students who start out in 9th grade in New Hanover County Schools graduate. In one high school, only 55.2% graduate. In Pender County, the overall four year graduation rate is 64.3%. CIS of Cape Fear seeks to provide support and resources to all students who are at risk of dropping out of school.

- Graduation Coaches reach out to students who are chronically absent, have numerous office referrals for discipline issues, have been suspended, and students who are failing core subjects.
