Gang Prevention and Outreach
The New Hanover County Gang Task Force has identified over 70 different gangs and over 250 gang members in schools.
Communities In Schools of Cape Fear provides services to middle school students who are at risk of becoming involved in gangs. The Gang Outreach Specialist reaches out to specific students who are referred by their school and provides alternative activities and resources to these youth and their families.
CISCF’s Gang Outreach Coordinator collaborates with the Gang Task Force of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office to develop and provide strategies to combat gang involvement. Together, they provide engagement opportunities for youth that focus on attending school, strengthening character and exploring opportunities that are alternatives to gang involvement. Opportunities and activities include Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, Men of Strength club and Why Try Curriculum.
